Fabric softeners make our washed clothes soft and smelling incredible, but they also have serious side-effects due to the amount of chemicals they contain. The solution? Making your own fabric softener. It’s easier than you think, and works just as good if not better than commercial fabric softeners.

Today we’re going to show you how to make a homemade fabric softener and cleanser with the help of Epsom salts and sea salt. The recipe includes essential oils as well and baking soda. Here’s what you need to do:

Mix all the ingredients in a container with a lid – use 2 cups of Epsom salts, lemon essential oil (or another one of your choice), and a tablespoon of baking soda, which will help the mixture dissolve and eliminate stains. You need about 2-3 tablespoons of the mixture before the rinsing process – if you don’t plan on using baking soda in the recipe, use ½ a cup to each load of wash. The recipe can be made stronger or weaker, and you can make different scents using different essential oils. Add a bit more Epsom salt and you will get a bigger amount of the DIY fabric softener.

This softener doesn’t contain any chemicals which may harm your health. It’s completely safe to use and safe for the environment as well, which is why we suggest trying it before buying commercial products. You can pick the scent just like in the market, and the softener works better than anything else.
