Waffles are the best dessert in the world – well, maybe they’re second only to ice-cream. There’s only one problems – they are high in calories and not exactly the healthiest type of dessert. But, there’s a solution for everything – we’re going to show you how to prepare a healthy version of waffles which won’t make you gain weight or spike your insulin levels.


The waffles are made from apple and cinnamon, two ingredients which can help you lose weight and a bit of caramel for balance. Here’s the recipe:



½ a teaspoon of baking soda

½ a teaspoon of baking powder

A cup of apples

1 ½ cup of white whole wheat pastry flour

1 ½ tablespoon of cinnamon powder

1/8 teaspoon of salt


¼ cup of maple syrup

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

2 tablespoons of coconut oil

2 eggs

A cup of almond milk

Caramel sauce

A cup of coconut milk

½ a cup of maple syrup

½ a teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 tablespoon of unsalted butter

Seeds from ½ a vanilla bean

A pinch of sea salt


Preheat the waffle iron to medium heat (or as you prefer), then mix the dry and wet ingredients in separate bowls and join them. Now, melt the coconut oil for a bit and add it to the waffle batter, then spray the hot waffle iron with cooking oil and pour the batter in. Even it out nicely, then close it and bake the waffles to your preference.


To prepare the sauce, mix all the ingredient in a saucepan and cook them on medium heat, then simmer the mixture for 30 seconds on low heat once it boils until the caramel sticks to a spoon. Leave it to cool down for 5 minutes afterwards, then store it in a container. Pour the caramel sauce over the waffle and sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy your healthy waffle!
